UK locations reaping the richest rewards from new road and rail links, Small local changes can make a big difference.

Down in Cornwall, the recently completed dualling of the A30 near Bodmin has taken a handy 15 minutes off many trips in the county, while in Wadebridge — until now overshadowed by neighbouring Padstow — the council will be opening a riverside entertainment area this summer. “Locals expect it to encourage young families and second-home owners, further boosting house prices,” says Clare Coode, regional director of Stacks Property Search.

From the end of this year, the Severn Bridge tolls, previously £6.70, and already reduced to £5.60, will be scrapped. Commuters who buy a monthly season ticket would save £1,183 over a year.

“We’re already seeing considerable interest in Monmouthshire, from Bristol escapees in particular,” says James Greenwood, regional director of Stacks Property Search. “It’s having a significant impact on prices, beyond what people are saving by not paying the toll daily.”
