Other, more traditional estate owners are starting to see the writing on the wall. “I’m receiving calls from the people whom I helped to buy an estate years ago seeking advice on what to do,” says Gideon Sumption, regional consultant at Stacks Property Search. “They say things like: ‘The gardener has given up, the tractor driver is dead, the whole place is run on oil.’ ” The deteriorating economic outlook is seen as a cloud on the horizon, while there are worries about post-Brexit agricultural support and the generally uncertain outlook for farming.
