Great Missenden is on the Aylesbury branch of  the Chiltern Line, an excellent rail route into London Marylebone – the ‘fast train’ takes just 39 minutes. 

If you prefer the tube, Amersham is the end of the Metropolitan Line, only 7 miles from the centre of Great Missenden. The Metropolitan underground line can also be joined at Chesham, 5 miles away.

M40 is 10 miles away, M25 17 miles.

On the East-side of A413, Ballinger, Frith Hill, Swan Bottom, The Lee, South Heath, Hyde End & Hyde Heath, Chartridge & Pednor are on the way to Chesham.  These villages are nestled in the rolling Chilterns, and properties can be tucked away, seemingly in the heart of undisturbed countryside, but in reality moments away from amenities.  See also ‘Future’ re HS2 on this side of the valley.

On the West-side of A413,  Prestwood is ‘up the hill’ from Great Missenden, with a wider variety of houses plus its own amenities. Little Hampden & Great Hampden are towards Princes Risborough.  Little Kingshill & Great Kingshill are in the direction of High Wycombe.

South along A413 towards Amersham & the Chalfonts, Little Missenden has its own character, and was a setting for a Midsomer Murder, as were other villages around this area.  More on villages dircetoly south towards High Wycombe here.

Great Missenden has an excellent primary school, and the Misbourne School is the local secondary school, now an academy.

private schools are plentiful in this area, including Gateway School in Great Missenden itself.  Godstowe in High Wycombe,  Pipers Corner in Great Kingshill and The Beacon School in Amersham  & Chesham Prep are all popular choices in addition to the Buckinghamshire Grammar Schools, likely to be Dr Challoners, Royal Grammar or Chesham Grammar.

Great Missenden was home to Roald Dahl and now has a museum dedicated to him.

Hughenden Manor – 5 miles from Great Missenden. The country home of Victorian Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli offers a vivid and entertaining insight into his colourful personal and political life.

HS2 is going through or under on the east side of the valley.  Works have begun here, and whilst road disruption is being experienced, you can determine whether it will be a particular problem for you.  The price impact happened some time ago, so do not expect a bargain as the market has corrected.
