We are finding people are keen to balance their travel to the capital with the direction of their visits elsewhere. And why not give yourself the benefit of an hour or so less journey to catch up with family on the weekends? Spanning four counties means the Chilterns are very well served transport-wise. Being so close to London, the roads and rail lines tend to spoke out of the capital as you’d expect, providing convenient access north and south, with the west being extremely accessible too. The M1 and M40 pincer the area to the east and west, with useful travel opportunities also being provided by major roads such as the A41 and A413.

Four railways lines facilitate easy travelling in and out of the area supported by twenty stations, and even an Underground line sits on the edge at Amersham. London Midland operates from Euston to Birmingham, with Berkhamsted and Tring convenient locations for either destination. Chiltern Railways leaves Marylebone also for Birmingham, but will take you via High Wycombe, Princes Risborough, and Amersham. Thameslink Great Northern will connect you with London Kings Cross. And First Great Western links Paddington with Goring or Henley with an easy change.

And with all this talk of travel links, we can’t miss mentioning the airports. Depending where you are in the Chilterns, you are within easy striking distance of Heathrow, Stansted, Luton and Birmingham.

The Chilterns offer a wealth of outside activities along with other culturally rewarding distractions and entertainment.

Superb walking country – From managed trails to off-the-beaten-track style rambling. For those who love the opportunity to get out into nature, enjoy fresh air, and take in beautiful views, the Chilterns have a lot to offer. For example: the Chiltern Way, the Ridgeway, and the Thames Path National Trail. But it’s not all about walking, there are biking trails, picnic haunts, and superb opportunities for fishing and water sports. The great outdoors is truly right on your doorstep wherever you choose to live.

Historic homes – People with a penchant for the opulence and grandeur of our country’s historic homes have the benefit of plenty to delight too. National treasures such as Hughendon Manor, West Wycombe Park, Cliveden, Nuffield Place, and Stonor Park offer a fascinating insight into our nation’s past whilst giving visitors the opportunity to wander around enchanting gardens as well.

Train spotting heaven – For the steam enthusiast, there’s plenty to stoke your interest as well as perhaps develop a fascination in your youngsters too. Meet Thomas at the Bucks Railway Centre, or discover more about our steam heritage through the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway – a section that was once a branch line for the Great Western Railway. And don’t forget Buzzrail and Didcot’s Railway Centre for those rainier days too.

Put simply, the bonded links the area has to the history of the industrial age opens up a world of museums and mills… and much more. Even the world’s oldest model village in Bekonscot is here to be enjoyed. The Chilterns have a raft of quirky, fun, informative little delights to keep you and your family entertained throughout the year.
