Commuting from Buckinghamshire

Working in London has significant benefits, of course, but many people would still like to retreat out of the capital at the end of the day. The buzz is great, however some tranquillity appeals too. But what’s the solution if you don’t want to spend hours and hours travelling? We’d suggest you consider living in Buckinghamshire… It’s a superb solution that covers many bases.

Described as being located within the halo just outside the M25, Buckinghamshire is a hot spot for commuters into London. With a great road network, fast trains, and easy access to airports, it ticks most boxes a commuter needs.

  • The rail network – On the eastern side the rail links head into Euston. It’s half an hour from Milton Keynes mainline station, which also has plenty of parking. However, if you’re thinking of living more to the south or the west of the county, then links from Oxford and Bicester make the other side of London via, for example, Aylesbury, High Wycombe, Amersham or Beaconsfield, into Marylebone very accessible too. And then, of course, commuting up to Birmingham is commonplace as well.
  • The road network – Buckinghamshire enjoys having the M40 heading north-south, giving easy access to both Birmingham and London. And it also has the M4 on the far western side, which heads out towards Bristol. Nearby as well, though, is the M1, as is the M25 which can take you comfortably round the capital if you so desire.
  • Airports within easy reach – Heathrow is three quarters of an hour away, Luton is close by, and Gatwick is just under an hour and a half. Birmingham International Airport is also within practical reach, as is Stansted. So the busy commuter is well catered for if they wish to head to other places by air.

It’s true. Buckinghamshire really does have something for everyone. Peace and tranquillity for those who revel in a village setting. The buzz of modern town living for those who need a bit more pizzazz. Rustic charm with rural calm. Country living with space from the rat race. The more substantial homes in the county often pass between owners without ever hitting the market, but that’s not a problem if we’re involved for our contacts keep us in the know.

The thing is, Buckinghamshire has blossomed over the last millennium because of its solid agricultural base, and that heritage presents prospective dwellers with stunning villages, busy market towns, and substantial country homes set in glorious surroundings today. Rural yet vibrant, it is a beautiful county that’s steeped in medieval history whilst still being very much keeping up with the modern day.

Anyone living in the county has a lot to keep them entertained. Naturally the countryside, and the Chilterns in particular being an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offer stunning walks along well managed footpaths. But it’s not all open fields and gorgeous views. There are many atmospheric areas of woodland and forestry that offer mountain biking trails, picnic areas, and a chance for some peace and quiet. Plus the carefully maintained network of waterways and lakes provide the opportunity for fishing, water sports, and boating. Throw in a touch of horse riding, and you begin to realise just how much the great outdoors is on offer in the county.

But it’s no surprise really because Buckinghamshire is home to more National Trust properties and sites than any other county in England. It has grand country houses, woodland walks, and landscaped gardens galore; we often say the county’s historical past wonderfully tempers the speed of modern day living.

However there’s also plenty to keep one occupied inside when the rain is pouring down. From the Roald Dahl Museum, to Hughenden Manor, to browsing in boutiques, to the extensive shopping centre in Milton Keynes, you will never be twiddling your thumbs.

If your current commute is across London and you’re worried about simply swapping one commute for another, we’d caution you to think again. The journey in and out of the big smoke is easy, and the benefits of escaping every evening are huge. Less hassle, less traffic, rural idylls on your doorstep, with a bit of zing when desired. It’s a popular county that’s well-connected and chic, whilst still offering the warmth and welcome many crave outside of the capital.
