When moving to rural or coastal Devon, from a city, being as far away from civilisation as is humanly possible can seem appealing. From experience, moving from a city to a hamlet is great – you have all of the space and peace and quiet you need. But what if you run out of milk or you have spent the night in a sleep deprived haze and wake up wanting to walk to a coffee shop?
Think about the pro’s and cons of each scenario. One of the pros of living more rurally, is that generally, you can get more for your money than if you chose to live in a village with lots of amenities. One of the possible cons is, once the kids are old enough for school clubs, friends etc, you may find yourself becoming somewhat of a taxi.
Really take the time to weigh up all of the options- if you are looking for a forever home, these are the things that matter. Wherever you decide to be, it is our experience that people generally welcome you with open arms and you quickly become ingratiated into the local community- something that is becoming ever more important in these times.
