Happy New Year!
Yet again the agents are bullish for good 2018 but I am not so sure. Lack of stock due to Stamp Duty, Brexit, increase in Interest Rates – there are so many excuses why people do not move.

I think the reason is that families are not downsizing is due to us all being healthier. 20-40 years ago newly married had their children when they were younger and so by the time they were 50 their offspring had flown the nest and were settling down themselves. The elder generation then started thinking of downsizing – they did not need 5+ bedrooms, large gardens, stables full of ponies and horses. By the time they were in their 60s they were happy to move and release a good property onto the market. Now a days this has been delayed 15 – 20 years as we all are feeling in better health and have no requirement to move.

So the message is
Put your property on the market
Downsize
Have lots of lovely holidays with your surplus cash!!
