Market for £3m-plus properties grinds to a halt as buyers wait out Budget uncertainty

Ed Jephson, of property finders Stacks, says that the issue for properties such as the mill is that “once a certain price point is reached, buying a house becomes much more discretionary”.

Instead, he says, people are choosing to bide their time, wait out the uncertainty and rent while their money appreciates in other investments such as stocks or gold.

Bricks and mortar were always considered a rock-solid asset, but as Jephson says, “while it’s currently out of favour, this trend is likely to change during a significant stock market downturn or crash and buyers will be reminded that bricks and mortar still serve as a safe haven for wealth”.
