The new property hotspots where priced-out families are moving
Quoting Nick Cunningham from Stacks Property Finders
From St Leonard’s Exeter, to St Thomas
For bragging rights there is nothing like a St Leonard’s address. It is, quite simply, Exeter’s top spot.
“St Leonard’s is unquestionably the most sought-after residential area, positioned close to the quayside and within easy walking distance of the city centre,” says Nick Cunningham, of Stacks Property Search.
Property in the area is lovely, with streets of Victorian terraces and detached Georgian homes, most of which have been converted into flats. A full house could cost you as much as £3.5m, and you are looking at around £275,000 for an apartment.
These price points are encouraging buyers to St Thomas, on the west side of the River Exe, where there are plenty of Victorian terraces priced from around £225,000 for a two-bedroom house.
“St Thomas is within easy walking distance from the city centre, and close to the quay which is great for dining and riverside walks. There is a growing variety of neighbourhood shops and cafés,” adds Cunningham.
Average prices across the St Leonard’s postcode, with its preponderance of flats, stand at £318,920, up 17pc in five years. In St Thomas, where there are more houses, prices stand at £361,000, up 22pc.
