‘I’m ditching the countryside after a year – cities are just better’

Hasty buyers who fled in lockdown are U-turning after finding themselves facing a gruelling commute

Instead of moving to the sticks, many have settled for the suburbs. Sara Ransom, of Stacks Property Search, said: “Londoners who have spent the past two years in prime residential areas, such as Fulham, Maida Vale and Islington, are seeking space to stretch their legs, but they’re not quite ready to cross the M25.”

Whereas pre-pandemic buyers wanted to be in Fulham and Putney, now they’ll push their search out to Wimbledon and Cobham, and those who were drawn to Balham and Streatham are similarly looking in Dulwich and West Norwood, added Ms Ransom.
