The new trend in retirement living – a lock up and leave apartment.

Retirees thinking about downsizing to enjoy the freedom to travel should look at the location, security, parking and maintenance of their new home, says James Greenwood, of Stacks Property Search.

“Several have bought near Birmingham or Bristol airports, often within an easy taxi ride, or they organise a meet-and-greet deal when they leave their car at the terminal. My advice is to get on with it early so you have time to do the travelling bit.”

It’s also important not to move too far from the madding crowd, from shops and services and transport links. “People should not allow themselves to get too disconnected,” Greenwood adds. “They need to think about the implications of increased journey times – they might have to leave a day early and stay in a hotel near the airport or drive miles to a station.”
