Charlie Rearden of Stacks Property Search, says that awareness of the town of Oundle and the surrounding villages has grown significantly over the last decade, adding that it has increased in popularity with buyers moving out of London.
Waitrose – ever present to the movements of its well-heeled clientele – cottoned on early to this new interest by opening its branch in 2012 on the edge of the town.
Those needing to travel back to the capital have a choice of three trains an hour taking approximately 60 mins from Peterborough station, a 15-minute drive from Oundle, to King’s Cross.
“Also, the A1 and A14 are nearby, meaning that there are fast commutes to many parts of the country. We have several major airports within one hour and 30 minutes,” says Rearden.
Schools have long drawn parents to the area, in particular Oundle School, a co-ed public school founded in 1556, which dominates the town centre. It was for a time rumoured to be on the cards as a choice for Prince George.
Other well-established private options are within reach, including Stamford, Uppingham, Oakham and Kimbolton. The main state secondary, Prince William School, is rated as “good” by Ofsted
