Many anticipate that if the UK leaves the EU as planned in March, the pent up demand of buyers who have sat on their hands since 2016 will finally be unleashed. “There are an estimated 6m households in the wrong property, waiting to move. Only an end to indecision can free up the market and whatever the outcome, we will certainly see a significant increase in activity,” predicts James Greenwood of Stacks, a buying agency. He forecasts three things to watch for – cottages in tourist areas being snapped up by people jumping on the Airbnb bandwagon in anticipation of a rise in staycations; huge demand for bungalows because they are now so rare; and a surge in interest in refurbishment properties as idealistic buyers want to create their dream homes.
