Why British expats are ditching Australia for the West Country

Amanda Ake, a property finder at Stacks Property Search, agrees: “The pattern is London to Australia, then Australia back to the UK – but not necessarily London.”

According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), 111,000 people aged 16-34 left the UK in the year to March 2025.

Ake made the move herself back in the nineties, relocating from Clapham (one street away from where her son now lives) to Cottesloe in Perth for a couple of years in her late twenties, before deciding it was time to come home.
