Help and advice on buying property in Wendover and the surrounding villages

Nestling in a gap in the Chiltern Hills, the small town of Wendover is in the Metropolitan Green Belt and Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is a great base for country living, without sacrificing any comfort whatsoever, having, as it does, a range of restaurants, cafes & boutiques on the doorstep.

If you are considering moving to Wendover or the surrounding villages Stacks Buckinghamshire can provide invaluable advice to ensure that you get the right house, for the right price, in the right location, on the best terms and with the minimum of stress.

Speak to Stacks Buckinghamshire today to learn more about why Wendover and the surrounding villages should be explored when considering a move out of London.

Wendover is on the direct rail route from Aylesbury to London Marylebone with a twice-hourly service and a journey time of just over 50 minutes.

Wendover is 5 miles south-east of Aylesbury, just off the A413 which also connects with the A40 into London (36 miles away). It is close to Tring, Great Missenden and Aston Clinton.

Wendover itself has a variety of properties available, including some very high-end retirement developments. The villages around Wendover are equally popular, though mostly they are hamlets and their amenities will be back in Wendover, you can be surprisingly rural within minutes of getting off the train.

West out of Wendover, crossing the railway, leads to the villages of Butlers Cross, Ellesborough, Chalkshire, Terrick, Little Kimble, Great Kimble, Kimble Wick, Marsh, Nash Lee & North Lee. See Princes Risborough for more on villages in this direction.

South out of Wendover, lie Kings Ash, Dunsmore, Wendover Dean. For more on villages in the direction of Tring & Great Missenden

East out of Wendover, there are some large houses near the tennis club, and the site of RAF Halton is undergoing re-development soon. Hamlets such as The Hale are tranquil.

North of Wendover leads towards Worlds End, Stoke Mandeville and Aylesbury.

The town has first, middle, special educational and secondary schools as well as various pre-school facilities. There is a recreation ground and a skateboard base.  The Buckinghamshire grammar system is obviously a popular choice for families (travel to Aylesbury), and there is a wealth of private education options in this area of Bucks, including  St Teresa’s, The Gateway, Pipers Corner  & Griffin House, or travel to High Wycombe .

Wendover has a variety of pubs and restaurants covering Indian, French, Chinese, Thai, Spanish and Italian cuisines, and a number of local shops, including a small supermarket, antiques shop and bookshops. There is a weekly market and a farmers’ market on the third Saturday of the month.

There are multiple golfclubs nearby, and the Chiltern Hills are a magnet for hikers and dogwalkers alike.

Of historic interest is the parish church of St Mary, the distinctive red brick, spired clock tower at the crossroads in the centre of the town, the 16th century Chiltern House and the 18th century Red House. Part of the town was once the property of Anne Boleyn. The Wendover Arm (disused) of the Grand Union Canal runs to Bulbourne Junction, providing a haven for wildlife and a pleasant towpath walk or cycle ride. Wendover Woods is close by, giving access to the highest hill in the Chilterns, and the Ridgeway Path passes along the high street.  You can see Chequers, the Prime Minister’s country retreat, from the top of Coombe Hill, and Coombe House billeted the Free French during WW2.

The Proposed HS2 route goes through this area, right by the current train station. Whilst it is obviously important to understand these future developments, it is of course impossible to know for sure on any house purchase what might happen in the future. For example, the impact of HS2 will vary enormously from house to house, and sound can travel in unexpected ways rather than line of sight. Also, if and when it is built, the HS2 trains will be electric and far less nuisance than current trains. Other properties may be adversely affected during the construction phase, even a long way from the actual route. With careful research and an open mind however, you may feel that the eventual impact will not be significant for you, and you can potentially invest in a property at a good price.
