Brackley no longer has its own railway station, with services withdrawn in the 1960s. The nearest useful stations are Banbury, around 8 miles away, and Bicester North, around 13 miles away, both offering direct trains from London Marylebone and Birmingham. The town sits between the M40 and M1 motorways, giving strong road links in both directions, and is easily reached from Oxford, Northampton and Milton Keynes via the A43 and A422.

Brackley’s centre is built around a handsome late 17th century market square, with a good mix of Georgian and older stone properties nearby. The town has seen substantial new build growth in recent years, particularly around Radstone Fields to the north, a major development that has brought 1,000 new homes to the area. This growth has helped support a thriving range of local amenities, shops and services, giving buyers a genuine choice between period property in and around the historic core and modern family homes on the newer estates. The villages surrounding Brackley offer further variety for those wanting more rural seclusion, including Greatworth, Chipping Warden, Farthinghoe, Hinton-in-the-Hedges, Evenley and Halse, each with their own character and a good spread of period cottages and farmhouses.

Brackley has a long and layered history, believed to trace back to at least the Iron Age, with remains recovered during redevelopment work in the town, alongside traces of a Roman villa. The Chapel of St John & St James on the High Street dates back to the late 12th and 13th centuries and remains one of the largest school chapels still in use today. The town is also known for its schools, notably Magdalen College School, founded in 1548 by William of Waynflete and one of three ancient Magdalen College Schools linked to Magdalen College, Oxford, and Winchester House, a well regarded independent prep school on the High Street. More recently, Brackley has become known as the home of the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team, reflecting its close ties to nearby Silverstone.

Phase One of HS2, connecting the West Midlands to London, passes close to Brackley through the villages of Greatworth and Chipping Warden. The Greatworth tunnel, one of the longest green tunnels on the route at around 1.7 miles, is currently under construction nearby, along with viaducts and realigned local roads as part of the works. Alongside HS2, the town continues to see further housing development.
