Hampshire Property Finders

Hampshire is a very diverse county.

Driving along the M27 which goes east-west across the coast of Hampshire the view alternates from rolling farmland, to big city, to rolling farmland, to international airport, to big city and back to rolling farmland again before hitting the New Forest. The first purchase that this Stacks office secured for a client, was in Hampshire in 1987 and since then we have had hundreds of happy clients. Please look at our Testimonials page for some of their comments.

The Regional Director Bill Spreckley was brought up in Hampshire and after a brief sojourn living in London he is back where he came from. He loves the fact that he can live in a village and walk his dog in the beautiful surrounding countryside and yet have all the infrastructure that Hampshire offers at his fingertips, for him to dip into when he wants it.

The main economic area in Hampshire is centred around Southampton and Portsmouth, both of course are major ports and the immediate surrounding areas have grown up to support these two hubs. Other towns and cities include Winchester, Andover,Petersfield, Alton, Odiham and Basingstoke.

Communication links are excellent. The M3 and A3 give quick road access to London, the M25 and the rest of the country. Southampton Airport is a little gem, if you are fed up with the queues at Gatwick and Heathrow, try getting a flight to many European destinations from Southampton/Eastleigh Airport and sail through customs and baggage in under 30mins! There are also good train links to London Waterloo from Southampton (80mins), Petersfield (70mins), Alton (67mins), Winchester (62mins) and Basingstoke (45mins).

It was recently reported by the BBC that Winchester was the best place to live in the UK in terms of quality of life. Factors that influenced this decision were the proliferation of good schools, some of the lowest crime rates in the country, good health, good weather and good life expectancy. This beautiful cathedral city is also surrounded by some stunning villages such as Easton, Alresford, Cheriton, Sparsholt and Stockbridge, and then of course the rolling farmland and hills found all over Hampshire. Trains to Waterloo in 62mins.

In the past, our clients have bought houses in the area for a variety of reasons. In the city centre we have sourced investment properties, as well as bigger homes for families from London moving to the area for the quality of life and some of the best schools for their children. We have also bought a large number of beautiful village and rural properties for families wanting a slightly slower pace of life whilst still having access to all the amenities in Winchester.

Bill Spreckley now lives near Petersfield and although it looks as though it is quite a long way down the A3 towards Portsmouth, he can drive to a meeting in Fulham in under an hour, obviously not in rush hour. Trains take 70mins even in rush hour! The town has an old market square, plenty of pubs, bars, restaurants and coffee shops, sports facilities and a community hospital with a walk-in minor injuries unit. The South Downs are on your doorstep and the fabulous West Wittering beach near Chichester is 30mins away in the car.

Stacks has recently bought a large house in the centre of town for a client, we found the house privately and so no estate agents were involved with the transaction. We are finding this happening more and more as our list of private contacts built over 30yrs, continues to grow and produce results.

The hamlets and villages surrounding Petersfield have become extremely popular over the last 10yrs. The schools in this area and also neighbouring Haslemere have been a big draw. Most of our business this century has been within a 30mile radius of Petersfield and so we know the housing market and all the estate agents extremely well.

Odiham is a small market town with a classic Georgian High St, surrounded by countryside and yet very well connected to get almost anywhere else in the country. It is close (but not too close!) to the M3 and Hook station with trains to London in 53mins. Although the selection of shops is a bit limited, the larger market towns of Farnham and Alton are both about 8 miles away.

In this area we have mainly found and bought homes for young families moving out from London once their children are at school age. We have good contacts in the area and have negotiated a number of deals off market recently.
